Secretary of State and Key BBC Executives to Speak at VLV Events in November
and December
Jay Hunt, Controller of BBC One, and Tim Davie, Director of BBC Audio and
Music
will give keynote addresses and take questions at Voice of the Listener &
Viewer's 25th annual autumn conference on Wednesday, 26th November 2008.
'Choice in Broadcasting: can Quality be Sustained?' will be held at the
Geological Society, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London W1, from 10.30am -
3.30pm. Registration at 10.15am.
Peter Davies, Director of Radio Policy, and Broadcast Licensing, Ofcom, and
Jane Ostler, Director, Help Scheme, Housing & Industry, Digital UK, the
company responsible for managing the switch of the UK from analogue to
digital television transmission by 2012 will give an update on progress
towards switch-over. The process was recently completed in Border Region.
VLV Board member, Norman Green, will be in the chair. The session starts at
10.30am.
John Lloyd, Director of the School of Journalism of the Reuters' Foundation,
University of Oxford, and Contributing Editor and TV Critic, The Financial
Times will chair the session with Jay Hunt. It begins at 11.15am.
Gillian Reynolds, Media Commentator and Radio Critic, the Daily Telegraph,
will chair the session with Tim Davie. It begins at 2pm.
Professor Ivor Gaber, VLV Board Member, will give an update on Phase 2 of
Ofcom's consultation on its Review of Public Service Broadcasting at 12.30.

The Rt Hon Andy Burnham MP, Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport
will speak at a VLV Westminster Evening Seminar in the House of Commons on
Tuesday, 9th December.
Mr Burnham last spoke at a similar VLV evening seminar in the House of
Commons on 3rd June following which he said he found the experience so
helpful he would be glad to repeat the exercise on a regular basis. There
is no charge for attendance but tickets must be obtained in advance from
