Dear Colleagues,
thank you for bringing the following job announcement to the attention
of suitable candidates.
Best regards,

Multidimensional IR Spectroscopy: Chemistry and Biophysics in Real Time
We are looking for a PhD student to join our team at the Institute of
Biophysics of the University of Frankfurt, Germany. The position is
funded by the Humboldt Foundation and can start any time. Our group is
part of a lively interdisciplinary research environment and member of
the Cluster of Excellence "Macromolecular Complexes" (www.cef-mc.de).
Background: Structure changes in molecular systems occur over an
incredible range of time scales from femtoseconds to milliseconds and
longer. How are structure changes on different time and length scales
coupled and give rise to complex molecular behaviour, for instance in
the folding and function of biomolecules or during condensed phase
chemical reactions?
In our group you will have the opportunity to investigate molecular
dynamics and interactions with the goal to understand such phenomena at
the intersection of chemistry, physics and biology. You will use and
develop state of the art nonlinear spectroscopy setups and have the
opportunity to acquire unique skills at the cutting edge of
multidimensional infrared laser spectroscopy. Possible projects are in
the fields of protein-ligand interaction, photoswitchable designed
biomolecules, molecular recognition and signaling, chemical reaction
dynamics and catalysis, as well as the development of novel tools for
multidimensional spectroscopy, mid-IR pulse shaping and coherent control.
As our new co-worker you should have a diploma or master in Chemistry,
Physics or closely related, enjoy working in a team, be enthusiastic
about research, and ideally have a background in one or more of the
following fields: physical chemistry, biophysics, laser physics,
theoretical chemistry, nonlinear optics, infrared spectroscopy,
femtosecond spectroscopy.
For further information feel free to contact me (Dr. Jens Bredenbeck,
[log in to unmask]) and to have a look at our home
page (http://www.biophys.uni-frankfurt.de/~bredenbeck). Applications
should be send by email, including a cover letter, your CV, and names
and complete addresses of two referees who agreed to write a
recommendation letter on your behalf.
