italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
I would like to remind members of the SIS about the Society's Research
Collaboration Fund. The fund is designed to promote and support
collaboration between researchers in Italian Studies in different
institutions, predominantly within the UK and ROI, and to support
collaboration between Italianists and researchers from other disciplines,
and where appropriate, with international researchers. This is
'pump-priming' funding, aimed at facilitating detailed discussion and
formulation of a potentially major project at its earliest stages, and
resulting normally in the preparation of an application to a Research
Council or foundation for a substantial award, which will include at least
one PhD and one post-doctoral studentship.
Details of the Research Collaboration Fund can be found on the homepage of
the SIS website: http://www.sis.ac.uk/cgi-bin/safeperl/sisinfo/sistine.pl
The fund has two annual deadlines (15 December and 15 June) but
applications concerning Research Council strategic initiatives with
established deadlines (for example, for the third call of the AHRC's
religion and society programme) will be considered sooner.
The SIS is also organizing, as has already been announced, a meeting on
preparing bids (for large and small grants) to Research Councils and other
funding bodies. A series of colleagues from within the community of Italian
studies will talk informally about their experience of putting research
bids together and will answer any questions. The meeting will take place at
the IGRS, Room 273 on Friday 23 January 2009 at 2pm.
