Dear Juergen,
I would guess that there has been a problem with the installation of the
updates - newer files must overwrite existing files. In your case, you
probably have the file 'spm.m' in two different locations on your system
(it is present in the main SPM8b archive and in the updates).
I changed the archive internal structure yesterday and removed the top
level folder so that the update archive is similar to the one in SPM5.
Maybe this change of behaviour is the source of your problem?
