Conference "Governance and Religion"
20-22 November 2008
University of Innsbruck Conference Centre, Obergurgl
The Second Obergurgl Governance Symposium is dedicated to the topic of
Governance and Religion. The theme of governance is a central concern in
contemporary political science as the study of policy processes and
actors in political systems characterized by multi-level national and
international political structures rather than a centralized model of
government. The return of religion into the politics and public sphere
of European societies is, in turn, a fact that scholars of social and
political sciences, of theology and religious studies have been studying
intensively over the last decade. The 2nd Obergurgl Governance Symposium
seeks to bring the two debates together and look at the role and place
of religion and religious groups in governance structures.
The conference is organized by the research-platform 'World Order -
Religion - Violence", Alan Scott from the Sociology Department, and the
Working Group on Science and Responsibility at Innsbruck University.
Topics include:
Governance, Religion and Integration (with a keynote-lecture by Valerie
Amiraux)
Governance, Religion and Sovereignty (with talks by Allan Janik, Tine
Stein a.o.)
Governance, Religion and Violence (with talks by Arpad Szakolczai,
Harald Wydra a.o.)
The participation fee (includ. accommodation at the University's
conference centre in Obergurgl, an alpine resort) is euro 70 (10 for
students).
