Exciting Opportunity for Early Career Researchers (up to two years post-doc)
The Government Research Unit, based in HM Treasury, will shortly be hosting
a series of seminars in which early career researchers present their
research to members of the Government Social Research service. The seminars
will give the academics a platform to present their research findings and to
give government researchers a chance to suggest directions in which the
research could be developed, as well as to discuss ways of presenting
research to those within government.
The seminars will take place in HM Treasury. They will be attended by up to
four academics, along with a small number of researchers from an appropriate
Government department. The seminars will take place on selected Wednesdays,
during November and December. Each seminar will be no longer than two hours
in duration. The Government Social Research Unit will fund reasonable travel
expenses for those attending.
The academics will be selected by the Government Social Research Unit in
conjunction with various Learned Societies. The Social Policy Association
has been approached for suggestions of early career researchers - promising
new researchers (including research active lecturers) with up to two years
post-doc or similar experience whose work has potential policy relevance.
Priority will be given to those who do not already have existing links with
government, but who wish to develop contacts. You must be a member of the
SPA.
If you would be interested in presenting your research in this forum - or if
you have a colleague who would - please email Caroline Glendinning, SPA
Chair at [log in to unmask] by the end of Friday 10th October. Please let me
have your name, institutional affiliation, contact details, and proposed
topic. A sub-group of the SPA Executive will then draw up a shortlist to
pass on to the organisers of the seminar.
