We recently funded development of a curriculum for Rapid Ethnographic
Assessment that might be of interest to some on the list. It covers
quite a bit of information on qualitative assessment and may be useful
for some of the organizations you work with as it really supports the
underlying idea of Community Based Participatory Research by increasing
capacity in assessment for those working with STD/HIV/AIDS (though much
of it would be of use to anyone. Please check out the site and forward
to anyone that you think might be interested.

A user friendly web site is available for helping grassroots groups
assess STD/HIV/AIDS in their communities. The web site is actually free
and has the approval of the Wisconsin Nurses Association Continuing
Education (CEAP) committee, which makes it eligible for national
approval for contact hours. The site can be accessed at
http://www.delvecurriculum.com. It requires a log in, but there is
absolutely no cost. The site goes through everything from involving
stakeholders, to literature reviews on STDs, to qualitative data
collection, to quantitative data collection, to mixed methods, to
sampling, to human subjects and ethics issues, to data analysis, to
reliability and validity, to presentation. It is fully referenced
throughout. It even includes cute little videos on right and wrong ways
of doing things, and oodles of case studies on how some kinds of
research techniques work in the field.
