Subject: Goldacre tickets on sale
We're all set up now for the Ben Goldacre 'Bad Science' event, which we
hope/expect to be much bigger than a usual Cafe.
In order to persuade Dr Goldacre to come, we have shifted the October
Cafe
date to Friday 17th, and there will be no event on the Tuesday of that
week. The location has also temporarily moved, to the Martin Wood
Lecture
Theatre on Parks Road. Since we have to know how many will be
attending,
tickets are being sold via Blackwells, with a nominal charge of 1 pound
each, which means we will not make a hat collection that night. Tickets
are now on sale - apologies for the delay. There is a maximum limit of
230 in the audience, and I will email this list again later many are
left.
I have updated the website with ticket/parking/venue details on the main
page, and a specific page for the October talk, including a poster and
flyer you are welcome to download if you wish to publicise this to
others.
See http://www.cafesci.org/ for more. We will open the Martin Wood
doors
at 6:30pm as usual, for a Cafe start at 7pm. Copies of Goldacre's
recently published book will be on sale, and he will sign copies after
the
Cafe is over. Caffe Nero are interested in providing coffee/tea on the
night: I will confirm this later.
Coming up in November: 'Avoiding strokes, and why medical research has
been failing patients', with Prof Peter Rothwell, head of the Stroke
Prevention Unit in Oxford.
Looking forward to seeing you soon,
Rachel Quarrell
