Research Officer (Portfolio Development) - 2008/0684
Medicine
Reference: 2008/0684
Closing date: 31 October 2008
Type: Academic Research and Senior
Salary:£28290 - £33780 per annum. (Grade 6).
To contribute to the development and management of research within the unit.
The Welsh Assembly Government has recently announced funding for the Wales School of Primary Care
research. This is a multi-disciplinary collaboration of primary care disciplines, including in the
first instance, General Practice, Pharmacy, Nursing, Optometry, and Dentistry. The School will
develop the quality and quantity of primary care research in Wales through an ambitious programme of
grant development, writing and capture.
The main focus of this post will be the development, writing and submission of prioritised funding
applications (with senior support). The post holder will also assist the Director and Associate
Directors in establishing and developing the School. The post holder will therefore need to be well
organised and have leadership and development skills and have sufficient academic background to
appreciate all the steps in the research process. Some research experience is essential and a track
record as an independent researcher would be an advantage.
The post would suit an ambitious academic who wishes to rapidly develop or enhance research
infrastructure development/experience and grantmanship skills. The post will be located in Cardiff
University’s’ thriving Department of Primary Care and Public Health in the School of Medicine,
and will have close links to the Schools of Optometry, Dentistry and Pharmacy, and Nursing Studies
at the University of Glamorgan. The post is for three years in the first instance.
