Kapuschinski is (was) one of my heroes (sadly, he died not so long
ago). His book about Russia, Imperium, is a must read - written after
the wall came down, it's awfully prescient about the present state of
the world. And his accounts of the fall of the Shah of Iran and Haille
Sellasie are justifiably classics. Travels with Herodotus was
published posthumously, and is basically his autobiography: Herodotus
was one of his principle inspirations.
