NEWS RELEASE
This school year brings a continuation of one project and a new project for Technology Applications Power Time [6th Period] at the Junior Academy at Raul Yzaguirre School For Success:
Literacy Through Photography under the auspices of Houston FotoFest:
Literacy Through Photography (LTP), the educational component of FotoFest International (Houston, Texas), is a writing program designed to help classroom students achieve better communication skills through the use of digital or film-based photography. FotoFest has combined with the instructors and schools to pursue a pilot program ... blog approach ... for LTP. Students increase visual and verbal literacy while building cognitive thinking skills, self-esteem, and awareness of each other. The LTP curriculum provides students with meaningful subject matter to help them write about their own photographs, their own lives, with confidence.

Digital Art Collaboration with Eisenhower Middle School, Wyckoff, New Jersey:
This project is a digital art exchange between middle school students at Raul Yzaguirre School For Success [RYSS] [Houston, Texas] and Eisenhower Middle School [Wyckoff, New Jersey] to enhance vocational skills in photography and photo software utilization. The students will learn from and grow with each other through posting of their digital art and writing to each other via this blog. The compounded approach of each student exchanging photographs for digital manipulation to make digital art from each other's original image ... similar to the "exquisite corpse" approach taken within the Fine Arts and an example shown at www.tomharold.com ... will create situations of social and artistic exchange under the teaching and guidance of the teachers.

Both projects at their blog sites are now in progress with posting of images and writing by the RYSS students. Eisenhower Middle School students and students at another school in the Houston area ... to be announced ... will be posting soon for exchange.
Please bookmark the two above websites to follow the progress of these projects. Both projects will have physical components as well with either projected or print exhibitions at the various schools and FotoFest galleries.
