A family letter from Noel Odell, mining engineer & mountaineer, referring to his
having worked at Levant before the First World War was recently deposited at
Cornwall Record Office. Odell is best known as having been the last person to
see Mallory & Irvine heading towards the summit of Everest (1924) and also
was a pioneer in the use of oxygen in high altitude mountaineering. Although
not mentioned in the letter, my mother says Odell told her he was at Levant
at the time of the man engine disaster.
