medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Doctissimi,
I just read the following:
"...Saint Augustine also interpreted death on the cross as marriage with the mother." No footnote or reference provided. I have tried googling, dogpiling and all the usual tricks but came up empty. Has anyone ever heard/read anything like this? Please don't go to any trouble as I shall not lose any sleep if I can't verify this. I find it bizarre and am merely curious. If it's any help, the essay concerns the dream of Socrates.
Thanks, MG
Marjorie Greene
