Privacy and Consent for Identity Management

Applications are invited for a 3 year PhD studentship in the
Department of Informatics and Sensors, Cranfield University. Wholly
postgraduate, Cranfield University is a leading European institution
for technology and applied science, with a global reputation for
research. The studentship will be based at the Defence College of
Management and Technology (DCMT) at the Defence Academy, Shrivenham
(near Swindon).
The studentship is part of a three year research project called VOME
(Visualisation and other Methods of Expression). The project which is
funded by TSB, EPSRC and ESRC will explore how end users engage with
concepts of privacy and consent when managing their identity on-line.
The aim of the project is to develop software prototypes that enhance
user engagement with issues of privacy and consent in identity
management.
The studentship will focus on developing conceptual models that pull
through the output of social science research with end users into
tangible requirements for software products. The successful candidate
will be part of a project team that includes researchers from Royal
Holloway and Salford University as well as industrial partners from
Sunderland City Council and Consult Hyperion.
Entry requirements
Applications are invited from candidates with at least an upper second
class honours degree and a relevant MSc. Students may have backgrounds
in a range of relevant academic disciplines, including animation,
games and visualisation or human computer interaction.
Funding
The studentship will cover tuition fees to home/EU level, and will
provide a stipend of approximately £12,600 per annum for 36 months.
