The IDS is a leading global institution for research, teaching and
communications on international development, based at the University
of Sussex campus.
The Globalisation Team at IDS is seeking to recruit a part-time
Research Assistant (20 hours per week) for its project 'Global Brands
from China?: A comparative study of the acquisition of branding
capabilities in domestic and global value chains'. The RA will provide
assistance with literature reviews, data analysis and interviews with
Chinese firms and/or foreign buyers based in China and abroad.
The successful candidate will provide general support to the principal
investigator including (but not limited to) in her communications with
her Chinese research collaborators. The post requires the ability to
synthesise large amounts of research data, qualitative and
quantitative analytical abilities, a high level of organisation and
excellent writing skills. Chinese language abilities and/or research
experience in the Chinese context would be an advantage.
We offer an attractive salary, favourable holiday allowance, a
flexible working ethos and membership of the Universities
Superannuation Scheme. The post is based in Brighton, Sussex.
Please note that this post does not meet the UK Home Office
requirement for work permit criteria, therefore, we will be unable to
recruit applicants who do not have the right to live and work in the
UK. However, applications from international students registered for a
full-time postgraduate course in the UK are welcome.
Salary: Initial appointment will be at £25,584 per annum, pro rata in
the IDS Grade 5 range: £22,122 - £26,876
