Helena Carvalhão Buescu is Professor of Comparative Literature at the
University of Lisbon and a member of Academia Europea. Her main areas of
interest include Comparative Literature and the construction of modernity.
She has published ten books, among which A Revisionary History of
Portuguese Literature (Garland, 1999), and O Grande Terramoto de Lisboa.
