Dear Colleagues and Members of the Geological Society Hydrogeology Group
With the growing importance of groundwater as a source of heating and
cooling, you may be interested to know that a new JISCMAIL group has
been set up to cater specifically to the topic of ground source heat.
The aim of the group is to provide a forum not only for academics to
come into contact with one another, but also where practitioners,
consultants and installers can contribute their expertise and knowledge.
We certainly hope that the group will attract budding "thermogeologists"
and also that buildings services engineers, architects, drillers and
regulators will subscribe. One of the major problems facing the
development of the ground source heating/cooling community in the UK is
the lack of communication and mutual understanding between these
professions.
The Thermogeology JISCMAIL group will cover:
- All aspects of heat storage and migration within the ground
- Low and high temperature geothermal energy and ground source heat
- Open loop ground source heat systems
- Vertical and horizontal closed loop systems
- Standing column wells
- Heat pump systems
- Heat as a pollutant and a resource
The purpose of the JISCMAIL group is to disseminate information that
will be of interest to the geothermal and ground source heat community.
Please use it to let members know of new research findings, regulatory
developments, meetings and so on. You may also use the group to request
assistance or comment on tricky problems or tasks you are facing, but
please do not abuse this potential - remember that your message may be
seen by hundreds of professionals and academics...don't use the group
for trivial requests and queries.
The mailgroup should not be used for commercial advertising. There is of
course a fine line here....informing members of a seminar, workshop or
training course, or a genuinely innovative product or technique will
normally be deemed acceptable use of the mail group. Blatant advertising
of non-innovative products or services will be deemed spamming and will
result in a warning from the administrator (at the very least) or
expulsion from the mailing list. JISCMAIL runs an "acceptable use"
policy, which may be found at
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/help/policy/index.htm.
The owner of the Thermogeology JISCMAIL group is Dr Natalie Kruse of the
SWAN Institute for Energy Research of Newcastle University. She will be
assisted in administering the group by Dave Banks of Holymoor
Consultancy.
You may join the Thermogeology JISCMAIL service at
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?A0=THERMOGEOLOGY.
A brief user guide can be found at
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/help/using/quickuser.htm.
If you do choose to join the Thermogeology JISCMAIL group - don't worry
too much if nothing happens to start with! Things only get interesting
when the members start sharing information....
Yours
Natalie Kruse and Dave Banks
