Subject: a little bit of dirt is good for you
I'm looking into a groundwater risk assessment for possible contamination
entering into a lake which is used by 'free swimmers'. After many tries to
obtain usage information from the 'head' free swimmer, I finally received a
statement about how often they swim, how old the swimmers are and how long
they are in the water for.
The contact must be extremely well informed as I was told the following:
"Are there any specific age ranges which are generally not recommended to
swim in this water? - people of all ages paddle, bathe and swim there.
Note that there is now documented evidence to suggest that 'a little bit of
dirt is good for you' especially at young age, because it builds up your
immune system and even reduces the risk of developing cancer."
Glad I got that sorted out - risk assessments will be so easy from now on -
maybe he should get a job with the EA helping with CLEA soil guidance values!!!!
