The 3rd DLM Forum Conference (2008) will take
place in Toulouse from the 10th to the 12th of
December, under the auspices of the French
Presidency of the European Union. It will be
organised jointly by the Archives de France (part
of the French Culture and Communication Ministry)
and the Association des Archivistes Français.
Three years after the DLM Conference held in
Budapest, this new conference will be an
opportunity to focus on European achievements and
new directions in the field of digital records
and archives management. The event will also
include a presentation of the new Model
Requirements Specification for the Management of
Electronic Records, MoReq2, published in February
2008 as an update to the previous specifications,
overseen by the DLM Forum and the European Commission.
Electronic storage and digital conservation
involve a variety of actors and partners:
producers, archiving services (either when
providing advice or when acting as repositories),
agencies coordinating e-Government, service
providers (security, storage etc.), suppliers of
software or hardware, consultants and so on. All
these participants have a role to play.
The conference will focus on themes such as
cooperation, partnerships and shared resources,
made necessary by the cost and complexity of
digital preservation; the emergence of norms and
standards and the way they are increasingly taken
into account when developing systems for
electronic storage; questions concerning data
security, the certification and audit of existing
systems; the implied changes to the training and
professional activities of archivists as well to computer services etc.
All these issues will be illustrated through the
presentation of real-life developments and
practical applications using the entire chain of digital archiving.
• The DLM Forum was originally based on the
conclusions of the Council of the European Union
(Official Journal of the European Communities C
235 of 17 June 1994) concerning cooperation in
the field of archives. It has flourished and is
now an association of members from public sector,
research, and private sector organisations across
the EU states and includes the EC. DLM is now an
acronym for Document Lifecycle Management.
