Dear Patricia,
I agree with the others that this looks like calcium phosphate
mineralisation. I have found that the colour can vary from amber to dark
brown, though I'm not sure why, and your remains do look unusually dark.
Although I think full waterlogging usually prevents mineralisation, I have
had Conium maculatum from a waterlogged ditch in London that had waterlogged
seed coats with dark brown mineralised internal structures.

I also agree with Mark that some of the hilums look like pea.
