Hi Justin

I have a great example, but it is for a very large project and so therefore not what you would expect of your run-of- the-mill type design and access statements.

I will see what I can dig out and send you some material directly. Can anyone else help out?

Regards
Marcus

Marcus

Have you got good examples yet of design and access statements, it is just that a colleague is having to do one for a car park.

Kind Regards

Hi Flick

Thanks for your input on this and I do remember your concerns. It would be great if you can keep both myself and the rest of the people on the list informed of these very interesting developments as and when they become available in the near future.

In the meantime have a good holiday.

Regards

Marcus

Hi Marcus, Alan & David

I have a lot of information and guidance on Design and Access Statements and experience of how they are(n't) being implemented! I am also working with the Urban Design Group in London who are about to publish a very useful guide to writing Design and Access Statements.

I am very concerned about the CABE guidance, which I think I have mentioned here before, and although I have made representations to them, there have been no changes made, apart from the front page image! I can identify a range of issues which in my view, seriously diverge from the original Circular from DCLG and there are many sections of the text and many images in the document which do not promote best practice and I believe are misleading.

I have also delivered a number of training sessions, with accompanying materials, to local authority staff and designers in the NW, on Design and Access Statements which might be helpful to anyone looking for a training programme.

David, I have not been able to download the Powerpoint presentations, but if it is based on the CABE document, I would have some concerns about it being fully comprehensive. I recognise that there is very little currently available though and at least it is likely to introduce some of the ideas. However, it is likely to completely ignore the place of Design and Access Statements and their relationship to Access Statements for Building Control and the idea of carrying through Access Statements for building managers, as proposed in the DRC guidance, which unfortunately hasn't been updated to include Design and Access Statements. I am also concerned at the low value placed upon using disabled people's organisations and access groups in the original CABE document.

I may also be able to deliver or develop frameworks, templates and useful checklists which have recently been updated and developed on access related issues and there will soon be available extremely useful guidance checklists on design elements from UDG which will fully integrate access issues (unlike the CABE recommendations).

If anyone is interested, please contact me for further discussions, as I am meeting with UDG in a couple of weeks to further develop our work on Design and Access Statement guidance.

Best wishes

Flick

PS. am away on holiday next week so won't be able to respond to any emails from Monday until the weekend!

            Hi everyone

I am conducting some research into the current situation on design and access statements. I wonder if anyone who has been involved in them would be kind enough to share examples (good or bad) or their views on them. If anyone is willing to do so can they contact me please.

            Many thanks

            Marcus
