Hi,
I mentioned this during my talk at GridPP21 and I am forwarding on the invite. We should have a corner at the event with the Real Time Monitor and some leaflets etc so you can maybe help out there answer some questions etc.
A quick reminder that there are one or two talks/slides/notes missing from the GridPP21 meeting page so if you gave a talk or were on a panel and had slides please send them on.
The Big Bang breakfast
LHC Start-up - September 10th 2008
CERN is holding a media event to mark the LHC start-up on September 10th, when they will attempt to get a beam circulating in the LHC for the first time. A VIP Inauguration at CERN will follow in October.
STFC is organising an event in London for the LHC science community, opinion formers/VIPs and media to follow this milestone and be briefed on the UK role in the LHC. The 'Big Bang Breakfast' will start 7.30 am
on the 10th and run until approximately 13.00.
A large proportion of science correspondents from the national media will be attending the CERN event. The London event will cater for those who can't make it to CERN and open up a broader audience. We will take
the CERN TV satellite feed and possibly have a two way connection with CERN. It is looking extremely likely that Secretary of State, John Denham will attend for a short part of the event.
A dedicated web area talks about the LHC work http://www.stfc.ac.uk/lhc
If you wish to attend the Big Bang Breakfast event, please register online at http://www.scitech.ac.uk/mediaevent/
Speakers include Prof Jon Butterworth, Prof Jordan Nash. Dr Val Gibson, a physics teacher and the Secretary of State.
Doors open at 7am and the first talk starts at 7.45 am, ready for CERN's first attempt to circulate the beam at 8.30 UK time. The final programme will vary as CERN make changes to their broadcasts and timings. The
timetable ends around midday, but again, this will be determined by the point at which CERN achieves its objective for the day - circulating a beam around the LHC.
Thanks,
