PostDoctoral Scientist at Elettra in Gas-Phase Chemical Physics
Job Description: The Low Density Matter (LDM) beamline at FERMI will be
dedicated to atomic and molecular physics, chemistry, radicals and cluster
properties. The selected candidate will be involved in the implementation of an
end-station specifically designed for the study of the energetics and dynamics
of photon-induced processes in reaction intermediates such as highly reactive
radicals, molecular clusters, and mass-selected ionic species. The end-station
will be developed jointly by Sincrotrone Trieste and a Consortium of partner
laboratories.
As part of the LDM Joint Research Team (JRT), he/she will work with the
scientist in charge and members of the Consortium, under the supervision of
the JRT coordinator of the LDM beamline, to develop an end-station devoted
to the generation of highly reactive radicals and other reactive intermediates,
and their spectroscopic characterization by means of ion-electron 3D-imaging
and fluorescence spectroscopies. There will be also the possibility of
participating in preparatory experiments for the new FEL source using
synchrotron radiation and lasers. The end-station will be ultimately installed on
the dedicated LDM beamline at FERMI.
The selected candidate will maintain communication with the FEL group
constructing the LDM beamline and, after commissioning of the end-station,
he/she will be responsible for the operation and further development of the
instrument to meet the needs of the user community.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. or equivalent experience in experimental physics,
chemistry or in a related field is required. Very good skills and experience in
vacuum science, the use and design of novel experimental instrumentation,
computing, interfacing, charged particle and photon optics, data acquisition
and analysis are priority requisites. Experience in synchrotron radiation, gas
phase photoemission spectroscopy, lasers and ultrafast spectroscopy or
related techniques would be highly desirable.
The post is available immediately and will be funded until Dec 31st 2010
