+++ APOLOGIES FOR CROSS-POSTING +++
Research Officer
ACADEMIC-RELATED RESEARCH STAFF GRADE 6: Salary £ 24,403 - £29,138 p.a., at
50% FTE pro rata
Applications are invited for the position of Research Officer within the
Oxford Institute of Ageing to start 1st January 2009 or as soon as possible
thereafter. The Research Officer will work with Dr A Hoff, Senior Research
Fellow at the Institute, on the research project "Between Job and Care:
Conflict or Opportunity? A Strategy for Securing Sustainable Future Care and
Productivity Potentials in an Ageing Society – A European Comparison". This
is a part-time position at 50% FTE pro rata. The position is funded for 24
months through the Volkswagen Foundation. There will also be opportunities
for the Research Officer to develop his/her own research interests within
this research project or within the Institute’s other research programmes.
The successful applicant should hold at least a Masters Degree or equivalent
in Gerontology, Psychology, Social Policy, Sociology, or another Social
Science discipline and must be fluent in English. She or he will be required
to carry out topic-guide based interviews with employed carers of older
family members in the UK. Applicants must have experience in transcribing
and analysing qualitative interviews. Additionally, quantitative data
analysis skills using SPSS would be desirable. We are particularly
interested in applicants with a research interest in the reconciliation of
employment and care, older workers / ageing workforces, family or informal
care. This is an international research project involving partners from four
European countries (Germany, Italy, Poland, and the UK). Therefore, an
interest in cross-national research would be helpful, although this is not
an essential requirement. The job would involve travelling across the UK to
conduct interviews, as well as travelling abroad twice a year to attend
meetings in the above-mentioned countries.

security, families and communities, health and social care, and education
and technology. Current regional interests are Europe, Asia, Africa, Central
and South America.
