ESRC Open Meeting
6pm – 8pm
Tuesday 7 October 2008
76 Portland Place, London W1B 1NT
The ESRC is currently developing a new Strategic Plan which will set out the
Council's key priorities for the five years from 2009 to 2014.
We recently held a national consultation with our stakeholders which will help
set our priority objectives and we will be holding an Open Meeting in London,
in October, at which we will present the trends emerging from the analysis of
responses to the consultation. Further information about this is on our website
at: www.esrcsocietytoday.ac.uk .
A summary of the responses to the consultation will be presented and will be
followed with a panel discussion comprising Professor Ian Diamond, Chief
Executive, Professor Judith Rees, Chair of the ESRC Training and Development
Board, Professor Charlie Jeffery, Chair of our Strategic Research Board, and
Mr. Martin Brookes, member of ESRC’s Council. There will then be a question
and answer session, chaired by Professor Alan Alexander, which will provide an
opportunity for you to ask questions.
At the ESRC, we are vitally aware of the importance of critical research
capacity in key social science areas. We also recognise the need for the
transfer of social science knowledge and public engagement activities with our
user communities and the general public, including policy makers at all levels of
government and practitioners. I would like to invite you to attend the open
meeting and welcome your feedback on the information to be presented.
There will be sandwiches and coffee available from 5.30pm and the meeting
will start at 6.00pm prompt. It will be followed by a networking drinks
reception so that you can meet with ESRC staff and Council members.
We would like to attract as wide a range of people as possible and would be
pleased if you could mention this to friends and colleagues who might be
interested in attending.
