Lecturer in Philosophy of Science and Medicine (part-time)
The Department seeks to appoint a part-time (60%) lecturer in the
philosophy of science, with a particular focus on medicine. The main
duties of this post will include the overall management of the Intercalated
BSc degree in Philosophy, Medicine and Society, and teaching courses that
are relevant to that degree. The successful applicant must hold a PhD in
an appropriate subject by the start of appointment, and must be able to
teach courses at all levels of philosophy of science; additional expertise
in the social studies of science and the philosophy of the social sciences
would also be helpful.
The holder of this post will be expected to be active in research,
teaching, and research supervision. There will also be significant
pastoral and administrative duties. The Department encourages strong
interdisciplinary connections both in research and teaching.
The appointment will start on 1 September 2009, and will be on the Lecturer
A (Grade 7) pay scale (pro rata, for 60% FTE), plus London Allowance. The
appointment carries a three-year probationary period.
