The UK Resources Centre for Women in Science Engineering and Technology
(UKRC) would like to invite gender and media researchers to a brain-storming
meeting to draw on your expertise to help design a new project on the
representation of women in science, engineering and technology (SET) in the
media. The meeting will take place on the 8th October from 14.00 to 16.00 at
the ETB in London.
We want to design a new (relatively small, roughly: £30,000 are available to
fund the project) research project to be carried out in 2009 which will
increase our understanding of the impact of the representation of women in
SET in the media. A general aim of our projects in this area is to produce
annual reports identifying facts, trends, changes and improvements over time
in different selected areas of media, building on the previous research
commissioned by the UKRC. The present project will be advertised in an open
tendering project to an external researcher/team of researchers and co-
ordinated by the UKRC team. We have funded research on SET women in the
media previously - please see: http://www.ukrc4setwomen.org/html/research-
and-statistics/ukrc-research/

research/>
The meeting will include discussion of the aims of the project the feasibility
and usefulness of studying different kinds of media, possible outcomes of the
project, specific audiences, and any other suggestions for a project like this
that the experts might have. We want to get the best advice from
researchers in this area, so that we can target this small amount of research
money into the most useful topic at this time.
Please let us know if you would be interested in attending the meeting and p
lease do get in touch with us if you need more information to decide whether
you would like to attend this meeting.
