In our library, we're looking to have reserved items on an open access
shelf, where reserved items are on a shelf in, say, the short loan
area, and students can come along, pick up the item they've reserved and
issue it using our self issue system. The system parameters would
prevent students borrowing books which aren't theirs.
At present, our reserved items are kept on shelves behind the counter
and have to be issued by staff. I'd be interested to hear from anyone
who operates an open access reservations system about how successful it
is and any pros / cons.
Thanks,
Jane
