Our IT department is concerned about the above-named directive on the
retention of data generated or processed in connection with the provision of
publicly available electronic communications services or of public
communications networks.
It is felt that the directive, if it became law, would apply to our provision of
our wifi network, which currently does not require tokens/logging in to use it.
The IT dept recommend either stopping the provision of the wifi network or
that we introduce a membership system to use it.
Have any other libraries or their IT departments already dealt with this issue
or similar, and if so, how are you running/maintaining a membership system for
your wifi access?
