I received only one example of a running IT training programme and one
aspiration in response to my query in July. (I know that there are more
examples out there as I have found some via the web.) Most of the responses
were from those wanting a synopsis.
- What sort of courses do you offer?
Courses mentioned: Word and Powerpoint plus drop-in sessions on IT issues as
raised by the students.
- Are courses freely available to all students?
Yes. Online learning materials also made available.
Some courses offered as part of curriculum by the School/Faculty.
- How often are the courses run?
Once or twice a term.
- Who develops and facilitates the courses?
Collaboration between library, academic support and IT services.
- How well are the courses received?
Generally fully booked with the usual challenge of students booking and not
turning up.
I'm still interested in any other responses (off list). At our social learning
space we offer 1-hour tutorials on a variety of applications including
Powerpoint, Photoshop and InDesign. We target a single application each term
with multiple sessions at varying times during a day. The targetted application
is based on frequently-asked questions at the space and via student
feedback. Not a comprehensive training programme as we would like, but
popular with the students so far.
