Exploring and Deterring Plagiarism
----------------------------------
The issue of plagiarism in schools is regularly in the news - "Teachers voice plagiarism fears" said the BBC when reporting the results of a recent survey conducted by the Association of Teachers and Lecturers. But what is the reality behind the headlines? And what approach should staff in schools take to tackle the problem?
Netskills is offering teachers and support staff in schools the chance to attend a free workshop in either Manchester, London or Edinburgh. The workshop focuses on the prevention and deterrence of web-based plagiarism, raising awareness and highlighting detection tools.
Netskills trainer Helen Blanchett, says, "Our project in 2006 highlighted the need to raise awareness in schools about plagiarism. As a result, we secured additional funding to deliver these three workshops, and also to make the workshop materials available afterwards. Schools will be able to use these materials in their own training to further raise knowledge and understanding about plagiarism."
