Press Release

Open Invitation to Launch Event for the:

Data Audit Framework (DAF) and Digital Repository Audit Method Based on
Risk Assessment (DRAMBORA) Interactive

Wednesday, 1 October 2008, British Academy, London**

Recognising the value of and risks associated with digital resources
being created in and managed by academic institutions the Joint
Information Systems Committee (JISC) and the European Union have
co-funded the development of tools to help institutions manage these
assets and maximise their long-term reuse potential.

Two of these online auditing tools will be launched on the 1st of
October 2008 at the British Academy (London): the Data Audit Framework
(DAF) and the Digital Repository Audit Method Based on Risk Assessment
(DRAMBORA) (see enclosed leaflets). DAF and DRAMBORA can help your
organisation take stock of the data assets it holds and the existing
infrastructure for data management so that you can ensure that your
institution achieves the best return from its research investments.

The Data Audit Framework provides your organisation with a means to
identify, locate, describe, and assess how it is managing its research
data assets; DAF combines a set of methods with an online tool to enable
data auditors to gather this information. DRAMBORA provides a method for
your organisation to assess its digital curation practices and the
performance of its repositories. It facilitates internal audit by
providing your repository administrators with a means to assess their
capabilities, identify their weaknesses, and recognise their strengths.
Further details about these open access online tools can be found at:
http://www.data-audit.eu and http://www.repositoryaudit.eu respectively.

We invite you to consider attending the launch of these toolkits on the
1st of October 2008 at the British Academy in London. This day long
event is designed to introduce attendees to these auditing methodologies
and tools, as well as to draw your attention to the kinds of support in
the use of the tools which your institution can obtain the Digital
Curation Centre. The programme for the launch and guidance as to how to
register can be found at:
http://www.dcc.ac.uk/events/daf-drambora-2008-london/

We hope to see you at the British Academy on 1 October 2008.
