SHERPA runs RoMEO as a service to academic authors and repository
managers around the world to summarise publishers' policies and
copyright transfer agreements relating to open access archiving.
SHERPA has analysed its records to determine which of the 414 publishers
listed, provide separate paid options for open access. The results have
been mounted as a table on the RoMEO site at:
www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/PaidOA.html
Publishers' paid open access options, often allow authors to immediately
deposit their articles in open access repositories upon payment of a
fee. The same publishers may also allow authors to deposit after an
embargo period without payment of a fee.
Where a publishers' standard policy does not allow an author to comply
with their funding agency's mandate, paid open access options may enable
an author to comply.
RoMEO
www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo.php RoMEO is an online service which allows users
to search for publishers' policies on self-archiving. Each entry is
broken down into which versions the author may deposit, the location of
the deposit and any attached conditions.
RoMEO is seen as an essential resource by many in the Open Access
community. RoMEO is funded by JISC and the Wellcome Trust. Journal
information is kindly provided by the British Library's Zetoc service
hosted by MIMAS.
