Hello,
I would like to briefly introduce myself. My name is Gwendolyn Roeske
and I work as an independent advocate and development consultant. For 3
years I have been advocating on behalf of nomadic Mauritanian Peul
refugees and de-facto stateless persons in Mali as well as promoting
litteracy and culture through the establishment of over 20 Pulaar
language box libraries. Prior to that I lived in Yelimane, Mali for 3
years and worked in the area of small enterprise development for
artisans, reforestation and renewable resource energy. I am also a Legal
Advisor at AMERA-Egypt since February 2007 where I provide legal aid to
asylum seekers in Cairo. The cases I specialize in are Oromo Ethiopian,
detention and deportation. I also serve clients from Eritrea, Sudan,
DRC, Cameroon, Nigeria and Mali. Academically I hold 2 undergraduate
degrees in Business and French and a post bacclaureate in African
Studies. I am a candidate for a MA in International Human Rights Law and
a Graduate Diploma in Forced Migration and Refugee Studies from the
American University in Cairo. My research interests are statelessness
and African nomadic populations.
I am very excited to be a part of the forced migration on-line community.
Regards,
Gwendolyn
