Dear all
Please excuse the intrusion at a busy time of year. However, if you
might be interested in using an advanced textbook on the UK economy,
please read on?
AS ALWAYS, PLEASE REPLY TO ME DIRECTLY AT [log in to unmask],
AND NOT TO THE MAILBASE AS A WHOLE!!!
It is now 20 years since the publication of John Allen and Doreen
Massey?s seminal edited collection on the UK economy: ?The Economy in
Question? (Sage, London, 1988). Andrew Jones (Birkbeck) and I feel
that the time is ripe for a new critical-geographical, advanced
textbook on the UK economy. As such, and building upon some successful
sessions at the recent RGS-IBG Annual Conference, we have put together
an edited book proposal entitled ?Reading the Economy: the UK in the
21st Century?. The book will contain 15 or so punchy 5-6000 words
chapters on different aspects of the geography of the UK economy, and
we have a very strong cast of authors lined up, including all our
keynote speakers at the recent London sessions. Any proceeds from the
book down the line will go to the EGRG.
Our reason for this email is simple ? we are trying to find out about
the potential market for such a book as part of finalising what we
hope is a strong book proposal. So, if you MIGHT be interested in
using such a book for a section of one of your courses (say 3 lectures
+), we?d be very grateful if you could just email us your name, the
name of your course, your institution, and the approximate number of
students on the course.
Apologies for the quick turnaround, but we would need any responses by
the end of this week, i.e. September 19th?
Many thanks again for reading this. Remember, do not just hit ?reply?,
but send your response to [log in to unmask]
Best wishes
Neil Coe (University of Manchester) & Andrew Jones (Birkbeck, London)
