Hi Joanne
good to hear from you. I know you are disappointed, but taking a year
out can be very useful for MA studies, it might all work out for the
better.
There are planning a lecture for year 2 on postgraduate opportunities
here as part of PP - so maybe you could come along to that.
As to drawing - I am a member of the Drawing research network
[log in to unmask] - you could send a general request to
that via my email or you might indeed wish to join. Questions as to
suitability of MA and funding in regard to drawing would be well
received there and you would get a lot of advice and well meant help
from people. I suggest you join the network - it's free to join
http://www.drawing.org.uk/ just follow the instructions which means
sending an email to Steve Garner I believe. Incidentally I will go to a
conference on drawing in November, so can try and gather a bit of info
for you.
Visual arts Ireland might also be good to approach. In Ireland to my
knowledge both DIT in Dublin and THe Burren College of Art put much
emphasis on drawing. DIT 's drawing contact is best found via triptych
http://triangleprojecttriptych.blogspot.com/2006/10/brian-fay-dit-5-
drawings-for-triptych.html
check this out - Brian Fay might be able to help you - you may find his
work interesting.
The Burren College is a private college and you can google it and see
what the situation with scholarships is there. It is a wonderful place,
and there is a great emphasis on practice and concepts being
integrated.
i suggest you contact individual institutes for their MAs - do web
research, and find out a bit about the ethos, information on
scholarships and on funding should also be available via web or at
least a contact email to push this further.
In the UK I am aware that UWE Bristol has a strong reputation for
drawing - you could research this. Most of the London Colleges should
be good - especially
the Slade, Wimbledon, Check out University for the Arts and Royal
College of course, Info on funding as above.
Dundee perhaps in Scotland, not so sure if they are doing what you are
interested in, but there is some good work done in drawing. Ditto
Glasgow perhaps - you better check out the Scottish places yourself -
am a bit out of depth.
I will keep you in mind - perhaps you might want to think about running
a small workshop for us - I have to confirm the details and fee and you
might wish to think about how you would structure that. We are
currently negotiating this so it's not an offer yet, but I can keep you
posted if it comes through.
Keep in touch
