I've had to delve into this a bit deeper, so I thought I'd share my thoughts so far...
It didn't really fit into an email very well, so I've put it up as a blog post:
http://librarytechnz.natlib.govt.nz/2008/09/adding-tags-to-dc-metadata.html
Basically:
* The tagging models/ontologies being developed (mostly in RDF) show up a deficiency in DC metadata - that you can't record the provenance of each value in a description
* We can't re-use the "taggedWith" properties from those tagging ontologies as they are sub-properties of dc:subject
* I think tags need to be integrated in DC metadata in three ways - flagged as "non-authorative", indicating who the particular tagger was, and can be placed under traditional DC properties when the type of the tag is actually known (eg. if it is a location tag, put it under dcterms:spatial)
* A (pathetic) attempt at how tags might be embedded.
If anyone picks this up before the community workshop next week, I'm happy for it to be discussed in my absence.
Thanx,
Douglas
