Call for Papers: Graduate Research on Gender, Feminisms and Geography
Annual Meeting of the Association of American Geographers, Las Vegas 22-27
March 2009
Co-Organized by Ingrid Nelson (Oregon) and Maria Fannin (Bristol), on
behalf of the Geographic Perspectives on Women Specialty Group (GPOW) of
the AAG.
The Geographic Perspectives on Women Specialty Group is organizing a series
of sessions for the 2009 annual meeting for graduate students/postgraduates
on the theme of Gender, Feminisms and Geography. We welcome empirically-
and conceptually-focused papers by graduate students on geographical
aspects of gender and feminisms, and especially invite submissions in the
following areas:
* gender, labour and class (new economic geographies of gender, factory
work, welfare politics, work/life balance)
* corporeality and gender (embodiment, phenomenology and gender, health
technologies)
* performing gender in the field/laboratory (for example, issues of
sexuality, motherhood, and race in research and academic environments
across both physical and human geography)
* transnational feminism and the politics of comparative research on gender
(theorizing gender and sex as categories of geographical research,
postcolonial perspectives on gender and feminist geographies)
Submissions need not be limited to these themes; we welcome additional
themes and encourage papers on any topic related to gender, feminisms and
geography. Please send proposed titles and abstracts of up to 250 words to
Ingrid Nelson ([log in to unmask]) or Maria Fannin
([log in to unmask]) by October 8, 2008.
