Job Purpose
The User Experience Researcher will be responsible for high quality user-focused research that will inform all stages of our product development lifecycle from initial concepts through to the final design detail and user acceptance testing. This work will help ensure that our products are compelling, highly usable and meet our users' needs. They will work as part of a new design team, performing user research and usability evaluations to ensure the continued success of our products. The job may require regular travel to development offices located in the UK and Sweden, as well as visits to customer sites in the UK and abroad.
Key Qualities we are looking for
* You are highly qualified and have significant experience in user research that drives development forwards
* You have outstanding communication skills and confidence whilst engaging with highly technical people and often complex problems
* You have a wide variety of experience in different methods used to carry out user research
* You relish the opportunity to champion user research within AVEVA and disseminate good practice
* You are very familiar with usability testing, workshops and other customer engagement sessions
* You can benchmark products, present design solution ideas and validate design decisions
* You are experienced with working closely with developers throughout the development lifecycle, ensuring that designs are well communicated and developments are kept in line with original designs.
* You are passionate about usability and good design.
Responsibilities include:
* Performing user research throughout the development lifecycle, analysing users, their tasks, their goals and their needs.
* Evaluating the usability of existing products or new design concepts in order to identify potential issues and demonstrate ways around them.
* Evangelise and educate on the importance and benefits of customer and user research to staff at all levels, in various departments and demonstrate the benefits it brings.
* As the User Experience discipline grows within AVEVA there will be a need for communication with sales, marketing and customer support groups to further understand and contribute towards the overall product experience.
Essential knowledge, skills and experience required
* Fluent written and spoken English.
* Educated with good postgraduate (preferred) or undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as human factors or HCI.
* Proven experience of research in industry, preferably with Windows applications, and an understanding of the commercial realities of making solutions that work.
* Thorough understanding of a variety of user research skills and techniques such as user observations, interviews and task analysis.
* Ability to articulate conceptual models of users' complex tasks
* Experience with using a wide variety of usability evaluation techniques, both informal and formal. Multiple projects with competing priorities have to be handled successfully.
* Exceptional communication (verbal and written), team working and presentation skills. There is a need to articulate design decisions clearly and persuasively.
* Strong sense of professionalism is needed in order to communicate with our customers/users who are very technical engineers.
* Keen to take on new technical concepts and challenges.
