SAC is a Scottish organisation dedicated to innovation and the transfer of
knowledge to the land based industries. Our 900 staff provide consultancy,
research, education & training services to rural businesses and communities via
a nation-wide network of around 40 business units.
An excellent opportunity now exists for an applied statistician to join our
expanding Epidemiology Research Unit team, based in Inverness. The main
duties will be to carry out applied statistical analysis on a range of projects
exploring approaches to controlling diseases of livestock and humans through
epidemiological research. Current projects include infectious diseases of
livestock such as paratuberculosis and BVD in cattle, jaagsiekte in sheep and
VTEC in humans. The successful person will assist with all aspects of
statistical inference and analysis and will be supported within an integrated
multidisciplinary team that includes other applied statisticians, veterinary
epidemiologists, data managers, animal disease modellers, animal health
economists, and laboratory scientists. This is a fixed term appointment for one
year and would be ideally suited as a sabbatical or secondment opportunity.
Applicants will hold a degree or equivalent in science or a related subject with
a basis in either statistics or mathematics. The ideal candidate will be able to
demonstrate skills in quantitative analysis of biological data preferably with
postgraduate training in statistics.
The salary will be in the region of £30,399 - £33,557 per annum.
