Hi Helen
I agree with Alan as checklists also only cover a selected few
barriers and don't help to provide possible solutions or deal with
improving access for all disabled people. Most checklists, as you
will know, usually follow BS8300 and Part M, and won't provide much
protection for challenges under the DDA from disabled people, if the
organisation isn't following best practice. The other problem with
checklists is that they don't often give any help in identifying
levels of priority. With heritage sites, this could be a complex
discussion with the clients and other stakeholders.
The MLA checklist recommended by Alan is good on specialist issues
and procedures though.
I'm happy to talk about some of the projects we have been involved
with around Greater Manchester, including Victoria Baths, and how we
worked with organisations and conservation officers, if it would help.
Best wishes
Flick
