Wasn't there an underground canal incline plane in the Worsley Navigable levels of the Duke of Bridgewater's coal mines? James Brindley the Derbyshire canal engineer being responsible for the construction of the Bridgewater Canal.
Incidently the only abandoned incline plane boat lift I can think of was the Foxton inclined plane which was adjacent to the Foxton Flight (two sets of five locks each) on the Leicester Line of the Grand Union canal, but this was on the surface not underground.
