Based in Stirling with requirement to travel to and work on customer sites
Forth Valley GIS Limited is a new local authority company providing an
extensive range of geographic information services to public sector
organisations across Scotland and beyond.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the company as a database
administrator to primarily work on the maintenance and development of a
range of spatial database architectures at many of our customer sites.
This post is an excellent opportunity for an experienced database administrator
to work on a range of interesting projects using a variety of established and
emerging technologies as well as gaining the experience of working in a highly
successful shared services company.
Key tasks include:
Analysis and design of business solutions;
Requirements gathering and documentation, working in partnership with
application developers;
Design, development, testing, documentation and maintenance of database
solutions;
Project management and customer liaison.
Skills required:
Proven database administration skills in business-critical scenarios;
Strong analysis and design skills;
The ability to quickly get up to speed with new technologies;
A high level of understanding of geographic information, GIS is desirable;
Excellent project management skills. Experience of formal project management
methodology, such as PRINCE 2, is desirable;
Good time management skills and the ability to work as a proactive team
member;
Good oral and written communication skills.
The majority of new database solutions are now based on Oracle
technologies. However, you will be expected to work with technical teams on
projects which a range of core RDBMS and middleware technologies:
Oracle – 9i, 10g, 11g, Spatial, PL/SQL
Core DB Admin - DataGuard, Backup (RMAN), security and disaster recovery
MS SQL Server
ESRI ArcSDE
The following skills would be advantageous:
ArcGIS/ArcIMS, ArcServer system administration skills
AutoDesk Mapguide system administration skills
Web Services - OGC and bespoke web services
Network administration skills, Novell NDS
SyncSort Backup Express
MS Virtual Server 2005
For this post, you will be highly motivated, possess strong
communication skills and be educated to degree level
or equivalent.
