*Collections of the Month feature, September 2008: Robert Owen*
This month we look at Robert Owen (1771-1858),on the 150th anniversary of his death. Owen was a social reformer and thinker who improved working conditions in mills and factories, introduced infant education and wrote and spoke widely on social matters. He was also an inspirational figure to the early co-operative movement and his influence can still be seen in the global movement.
The National Co-operative Archive holds Owen's correspondence collection, which contains over 3000 letters as well as a large collection of books, journals and pamphlets written by him.
