These tokens are used widely in KAPPA. Using a naive grep for KAPPA and
KAPLIBS I found about 40 uses of $ and nearly 200 %.
The $ is used in CONVERT too (fits2ndf.f, libcof/cof_extab.f, and
libcof/cof_extnf.f) and the % (fits2ndf.f).
