Hi Mathew,
I really enjoyed reading your email written from the perspective of an EDRMS
vendor.
I too would like to see more research out there on the effectiveness of EDRMS
systems.
Interestingly, whenever we've asked major EDRMS vendors about success
stories with specific companies, and HOW they did it, we always got evasive
answers or no answer at all. When I chased up a few of the organisations
mentioned, invariably I would find only partial and often flawed
implementations. Common comments were "...it's a journey..." or "...lessons
learned...".
As you mentioned, I do understand that there are many political implications
to implementing an EDRMS properly -- in one organisation that I know, the
security restriciton on records were so crippling that they had to have their
implementation partner build a custom-built security "tool" to attach to their
ECM system.
Research on EDRMS success would make a great thesis or paper...If anybody
has the time!
