Ruffey Creek
The creek in the park is being done over –
Old Ruffey wouldn’t recognize it from
1840, watering his herd here.
What long ran free, intermittent,
eroding its banks of clay, now becomes
worthy of a great English garden,
sculpted, stone-bottomed, smooth.
The noise of the big yellow machines!
The busy planners and engineers!
The English! – Amenity Lake
Diversion Structure, Instream Riffles.
When the orange jackets and netting
are gone, we humans and dogs will seem
so scruffy, cheap, ready for makeovers.
