The dead keep texting me,
emails, voice mails,
they say they've settled on
me as their spokesman.
They don't say why.
Perhaps it was spam,
they were phishing,
I got suckered,
like those Nigerian
bank accounts.
They want people,
not necessarily
their loved ones, whom
they've mostly forgotten,
to know the truth:
death is a scam,
a bait and switch,
don't be taken in.

The moral is this: in American verse,
The better you are, the pay is worse.
