Dear colleagues
We would like to bring to your attention the following postdoctoral
position for 2.5 years to work on an HO2/aerosols project with FAGE
(Fluorescence Assay by Gas Expansion. The project is fund by NERC. Below
I attach more details.

Postdoctoral position in atmospheric chemistry
Measurement of heterogeneous uptake coefficients for HO2 radicals on
aerosols
A fixed-term full time post is available for 2.5 years, and is available
from 1 October 2008 (flexible). We are looking for an enthusiastic and
self-motivated scientist to make measurements of the uptake coefficient
of HO2 radicals on relevant atmospheric aerosols using an aerosol flow
tube combined with the FAGE technique (laser-induced fluorescence at low
pressure). The post involves laboratory experiments and modelling using
the MCM (Master Chemical Mechanism) to assess the significance of HO2
aerosol uptake in urban and marine environments, and to develop
parameterisations. The position will also involve the development of a
new aerosol flow tube and the re-evaluation of previous field projects
in light of the new measurements. You should have experience with the
development of instrumentation, experience of chemical kinetics and/or
aerosol measurements and be willing to collaborate with other member of
the research group. You will need to demonstrate a commitment to
communicating results both written and orally to a range of audiences.
The successful applicant should have, or be close to obtaining, a PhD in
a relevant area of chemistry, physics or atmospheric science, a track
record of relevant publications in peer reviewed journals, along with
excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Appointment will be
made on the University Grade 6 or Grade 7 scale dependent upon
qualifications and experience.
