Postdoctoral Position at NASA Ames Research Center
An opportunity exists for a Postdoctoral Fellowship at NASA Ames Research
Center in the development of spectroscopy instrumentation for spaceflight
missions. The project is sponsored by the NASA Astrobiology Institute and is
co-managed by the Space Science Division and the Small Spacecraft Division.
The position is for 2 years (one year renewable) and will be based in the
Astrophysics and Astrochemistry Laboratory of the Space Science Division.
Candidates with a strong background in physics and/or chemistry and
motivated in working on spectroscopy instrumentation for spaceflight
missions are invited to apply.
Experience in laboratory and instrumentation development is required.
Experience with UV-Visible spectroscopy, laser spectroscopy and fiber optics
is required for this project. Experience with instrument miniaturization is
a plus.
The research project involves the development and laboratory tests of a
high-resolution, low noise, miniature UV/Visible spectrometer with fiber
interface for in-situ measurements in future small satellites missions and
lunar exposure facilities. This project also is expected to involve
interactions with one or more spaceflight missions using small satellites to
conduct science studies of organic materials using similar spectroscopy
instrumentation.
The position is available immediately. Applications will be accepted until a
suitable candidate is found. Applications for this project are restricted to
US citizens.
